Houston Museums You Can’t Miss

Houston is full of rich arts and history, so as you can imagine, there’s no shortage of museums. Whether you live here or are just visiting, don’t miss out on these local hotspots.

Museum of Fine Arts: The Museum District is one of the most popular destinations in Houston for a good reason; it boasts more than 19 museums in some of the most accessible areas in the city. The Houston Museum of Fine Arts might be one of the most trafficked of all these museums. Located at 1001 Bissonnet Street, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts showcases intriguing art galleries situated across several buildings. Exhibits feature a wide range of diversity, highlighting everything from fine enamel work across the centuries to the arts of Islamic lands. Admission is $19 for adults, $16 for seniors, $12 for adolescents ages 13-18, and free for kiddos under age 12.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science: Located in the northern part of Hermann Park, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is renown for its astronomy, paleontology, energy, and wildlife exhibits – just to name a handful! The George Observatory, Burke Baker Planetarium, Cockrell Butterfly Center, and Wortham Giant Screen Theater are favorites among visitors. Admission is $25 for adults and $16 for children.

Space Center Houston: If you’re willing to drive outside the Inner Loop to 1601 East NASA Parkway, be prepared for a fun day of exploration! Space Center Houston features numerous space exhibits highlighting history and science. Take a look at real spacecraft, participate in an interactive Martian deep space exhibit, and hear first-hand stories from real astronauts. This museum is not only a great place to reinforce the importance of STEM education with your kids but also a fantastic place for restoring your own wonder of science. There’s still so much to explore outside of this little blue ball!

Children’s Museum Houston: At 1500 Binz Street, not too far from the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Hermann Park, the Children’s Museum Houston provides over 9,000 square feet of bustling activities for kids. Engage in secret spy missions, explore Bank of America’s Kidtropolis, and witness all the amazing things that animals can see that humans can’t. The museum also hosts regular events including special speakers and activities just to mix things up! Admission is $11 for senior citizens, $12 for adults and children over age 1, and free for children under age 1.
