Reasons To Plan Your Houston Move For Winter

4 Stupendous Reasons to Plan Your Houston Move for Winter

There are plenty of reasons why you could plan your Houston move for the summer. The kids are out of school, maybe things are a bit more relaxed at work, and there’s no risk whatsoever of freezing temperatures! In plenty of places around the U.S., winter is a much more stressful time to try and move.

But in Houston, Texas, winter is the BEST time to move for a lot of people!

If you haven’t spent much time in Houston before your move, that might seem crazy. Nobody wants to wear long johns just to get their couch moved in! But Houston is not your average big city. Things work a little differently here, and that’s something you can take advantage of! So before you plan your big move, consider these very good reasons why winter could be the perfect time to relocate in Houston.

4 Reasons to to Plan Your Houston Move for Winter

1. Cheaper Housing

Think about it: Most people prefer to move in summer, whether they want to live in Houston or Timbuktu. That means less people are interested in buying or renting a new home in the winter. Due to lower demand in winter, sellers and landlords are more willing to settle for less than they would in summer or spring. Consequently, housing commands less money outside of the hectic summer buying season. Once the busy season ends in September, housing prices continue to stay lower in Houston through January and February.

2. Less Competition

During the busiest moving months in Houston—which are coincidentally the warmest months—you’re going to face stiffer competition to get the home of your dreams. Not only are the prices higher, but there are more people looking to buy and rent. In many cases, the most desirable properties don’t stay on the market for more than a couple of days in the summer before they are snapped up. Often, multiple buyers will bid for a property, driving up its cost past the list price. Apartments raise their rents according to demand, as well. In winter, you won’t have to fight as hard just to get a showing!

3. Lower Moving Costs

Want to hire experienced movers to help get your stuff into your new home in one piece? That’s going to cost you more in the summer than it will in the winter! Because there is more competition for movers in the warmer months, you’ll end up paying a premium for moving trucks and personnel when the sun is shining brightest. A winter move can help you keep costs down as you upgrade your living space.

4. Cooler Temperatures

If you haven’t spent much time in Houston, you might not know: This is the hottest place on the face of the earth in summertime! Ok, so that might not technically be true, but it FEELS true. The heat here in the summer often reaches 100 degrees or more every day, and the humidity is extreme. Unless you were born and raised here or you’re some kind of mutant, it can make working outdoors pretty miserable.

Our winters, however, are beautifully mild! Temperatures often reach into the 60s even in early February. A light jacket is often all you need, and if you hate shoveling snow, welcome to Paradise! Simply put, the cooler temperatures in the winter make Houston moves much more pleasant, whether you’re hiring a crew or doing it yourself. And if your utilities aren’t turned on yet, you might just sweat to death moving in without air conditioning!
