Houston Neighborhoods-Greenway Plaza

Greenway Plaza – Cosmic_omar
Greenway Plaza is one of my favorite affordable walkable areas. Sure, it’s not as happening as downtown or midtown, but it’s significantly more affordable. There are several newer apartment communities starting in the low $1300s with a few older options in the $1100 and $1200s. Brand new communities are starting in the $1500s.  With plenty of retail and restaurant options on Weslayan Street and Richmond Avenue, plus a movie theater, this neighborhood is a good starting place for someone on a budget. Plus, many of Houston’s commercial offices are in Greenway Plaza; so, you could walk to work! Did I mention Central Market and Costco are over here?

Edwards Grand Palace

Walkability ★★★★☆
I’ve already mentioned there is plenty to do in the area within walking distance including an Edwards Greenway Grand Palace. For people that also work in the area, life is a breeze with the option to walk to the office on nice days. If you feel like getting a real workout, make the mile walk to Highland Village for shopping at shops like James Avery, Victoria’s Secret, the Apple Store, Francesca’s & more!Transportation ★☆☆☆☆

Like all of Houston, there are plenty of METRO bus stations especially on Richmond Avenue and Westheimer Road. Catch a bus on either of these streets and you can go anywhere. Alternatively, there is always Uber.

Queen Vic

Dining ★★★☆☆

A couple of my favorite restaurants are in Greenway Plaza (and Highland Village.) Thai Cottage is known for really loading their food with spice and it’s cheap! Oporto Wine Cafe is a charming tapas bistro with a blend of Portuguese and Indian styles (visit the sister restaurant, The Queen Vic in Upper Kirby.) If you have a craving for solid reputable chains, head over to Highland Village for P.F. Chang’s or RA Sushi. Central Market has an outstanding prepared foods section.

Nightlife ★★☆☆☆

This area is not bustling with night life, but there are a few things to do. Stay at Oporto and sip wine, mosey over to Buffalo Wild Wings or take a 5 minute Uber to theUpper Kirby District.

Danny Jackson Bark Park

Pet Friendly ★★★★☆

All of the newer apartment communities have on-site dog parks and are pet friendly. Most dogs are accepted everywhere and of course cats are welcome. The closest dog park is Danny Jackson Family Bark Park just south of interstate 59. It’s huge  with big dog and small dog areas, large lakes and shaded seating for owners. They have a dog bath too and the park is only a short 5 minute drive.
