Weslayan Plaza

Situated between Greenway/Upper Kirby and West University Place, Weslayan Plaza is often called a “pocket community” due to its small size. Approximately 150 homes are located here, and their owners have easy access to some of the best entertainment, shopping, and dining in Houston.

Accessibility: This area boasts great accessibility with a Walk Score® of 79. Most errands can be completed by foot, and the neighborhood also provides some bike infrastructure. Although there are a couple bus lines available, the area does not have very robust public transportation.

Parks, Recreation, and Green Spaces:

Judson Park, Friends Park, Fire Truck Park, Mulberry Park, Levy Park, Danny Jackson Family Bark Park, Pin Oak Park, Feld Park, and Locust Park are just a handful of the many small green spaces situated in this community. NRG Stadium, Memorial Park, Brays Bayou Park, and Hermann Park are also located within a 15-minute car ride from the neighborhood, so recreation opportunities are always nearby!

Commute: This neighborhood offers fantastic proximity to job hubs like Texas Medical Center, Galleria, and Downtown Houston. Although public transportation options here may be light and somewhat limiting, Weslayan Plaza is nestled in the perfect spot to hop on Interstate 610, Interstate 69, and main streets like Westheimer Road.

Appreciation Values: Homeowners in this community typically see home values appreciate 194.90% after 10 years, making it a great neighborhood to invest in for the long-term.

Schools: Students who live in this community may be zoned to the following schools:

Public Elementary Schools:

Public Middle Schools:

Public High Schools:

History: During the 1920s, aspiring architect and English major Lilly Nicholson assisted a city planner with naming some of the area streets. Working through her textbooks, Lilly accidentally misspelled “Wesleyan,” and the name stuck. The Plaza is named after the street – misspelling and all!

Shopping: Although Downtown Houston, the Galleria, River Oaks Shopping Center, and the Shops at Highland Village are just a stone’s throw away from the community, there are more than a dozen stores located even closer at the Weslayan Plaza shopping center. Upon its conception, it even almost became the world’s very first mall.

Community: For several reasons, this area is often perceived as more affordable than other comparable communities, such as River Oaks. Homes here must abide by very detailed deed restrictions, and it isn’t unusual at all to see one-story cedar shake homes originally built in the 1950s. Residents typically love that the area is so close to Interstates 610 and 69, but it can be tricky to find a property that isn’t too close to the highway. Since there are only approximately 150 homes in this neighborhood and there is so little turnover in the most ideal properties, it’s important to move fast when a home here looks interesting.

Culture: For those looking to live in a small, active community, this could be the perfect neighborhood. The local parks keep residents and visitors busy, and there are plenty of indoor activities to enjoy. The area is loaded with shopping centers and dining to the north and south, and popular communities like Downtown Houston are just a short drive away. The Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Zoo, and Kirby Ice House are just a few popular places to visit. One thing is for sure: it’s difficult for residents in Weslayan Plaza to get bored!
