History: Named after Kirby Drive and by extension John Henry Kirby, Upper Kirby was established in 1988 as a commercial district. Over the years, the neighborhood has undergone extensive restoration of underperforming properties, leading the community to become a hub for housing, jobs, entertainment, and shopping.
Shopping: As a commercial district, this neighborhood is well-known as a great place to go to shop. The weekly Urban Harvest Farmers Market, for example, gives residents and visitors the chance to buy fresh produce, plants, and flowers.
