Timbergrove

Timbergrove is a deed-restricted neighborhood located west of the Houston Heights and approximately 7 miles from Downtown. It is situated along White Oak Bayou and adjoins the Lazybrook neighborhood.

Accessibility: With a Walk Score® of 48, it is difficult to complete errands by foot in this community. There also are not many bike lanes for residents to rely on. Six bus lines pass through the small community, so public transportation may be an option. However, it is generally recommended that residents own a car when living in this area.

Parks, Recreation, and Green Spaces: This area is known as a great spot to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. White Oak Bayou borders the community, and Jaycee Park, Little Thicket Park, Timbergrove Manor Park, and West 11th Street Park are just a handful of places to stretch your legs or bring the dog for a walk. With 20.2 acres of divine wilderness, West 11th Street Park attracts visitors from all across Houston. To the south of the area, Houston’s largest urban park, Memorial Park, brings countless visitors due to its wide range of available activities including jogging, biking, picnics, golfing, and more.

Commute: This is considered a car-dependent neighborhood, but residents may luck out with public transportation options. Despite its status as a residential neighborhood, the area has excellent highway access. Hopping onto Interstate 610, Route 290, Route 90, or Interstate 10 is a breeze.

Appreciation Values: Homeowners in this community typically see home values appreciate 38.84% after 10 years, making it a wonderful neighborhood to invest in for the long-term.

History: If Eureka Yard sounds familiar for some reason, that’s probably because this area was the site of the 1930s oil discovery called “Eureka.” After the end of World War II, the community remained largely undeveloped while housing availability in other Houston neighborhoods soared. This community, which was developed in the 1950s, was named after the towering trees that line properties. In 2011, Lazybrook joined Timbergrove as a Super Neighborhood.

Shopping: Residents in this area often travel to nearby neighborhoods to do their shopping. To the east in the Heights, Merchants Park Shopping Center and historic 19th Street are just a couple of options. Galleria, Downtown, and Rice Military are also great places to go for a day of shopping.

Community: Plots of land tend to be larger here than in other neighborhoods, making this area popular among those who’d prefer to have more yard space. The neighborhood vibe is also charming and suburban despite city conveniences being just a short walk away.

Culture: Approximately 69 restaurants, bars, and coffeeshops are located in the area. Depending on where you’re traveling, you can usually walk past one every five minutes or so. Since this neighborhood is located just west of the Heights, it also has easy access to shopping and events that take place there.
