Oak Forest is a large residential neighborhood in Houston, Texas. Since its annexation by the City of Houston in the 1940s, it has grown to become a thriving community known for highly-rated schools and affordable homes.

Accessibility: With a Walk Score of 62, residents of Oak Forest can complete a decent number of their errands by walking. There is some bike infrastructure in the area, as well. However, the community scores a 33 on Transit, so travel within this neighborhood should be planned ahead of time so you can make sure you can get where you need to be. History: Oak Forest is currently the third-largest neighborhood in Harris County, but that wasn’t always the case. Development began in 1946, and the first home built was a mere sales office. It took a couple of years before there was even telephone service! Conscious of residents’ needs, developers set aside land for the construction of grocery stores, service stations, and other businesses. By the year 2000, over 23,000 people had moved to the area.

Shopping: The Shops at Oak Forest is a popular shopping center featuring restaurants, a gas station, spa services, and more. Garden Oaks Shopping Center is another shopping option nearby.

Community: The community is a quiet, residential neighborhood known for its amazing schools. As a result, many young families consider this general area when planning a move. Due to the growth of the community, plenty of new construction is to be expected.

Culture: Since this area is growing exponentially, the neighborhood’s culture will continue to evolve over the coming years. For right now, more young families are moving to Oak Forest, lured by excellent schools and affordable homes.
