Located near Braeswood Place, West University Place, Texas Medical Center, and Rice Village, Southside Place is a popular small city for homebuyers in Houston who value proximity to the highway and life in a peaceful neighborhood within the 610 Loop.

History: The community was developed by Edlo L. Crain in 1925. His vision was to create a small residential community that featured bungalow homes, a park, a swimming pool, beautiful trees, and decorative rose bushes. Concrete curbs, sidewalks, and gravel roads were also included in the neighborhood – a rarity at the time of its conception. The unique, quaint nature of the development combined with its modern advances attracted many residents. In 1934, Southside Place officially incorporated, becoming its own small city.
Shopping: Since the area is located so close to Texas Medical Center, Rice Village, and West University Place, there are plenty of shopping hotspots nearby. Braes Heights Shopping Center, a two-story strip mall host to several retail stores and restaurants, is perhaps one of the closest shopping centers. Braes Link Shopping Center and Vanderbilt Square are also nearby.
Community: The picturesque city only spans about 10 blocks, making it one of the smaller communities in the 610 Loop. The neighborhood is often called “close-knit” as it typically holds block parties, holiday parties, and other get-togethers to help bring the community together. Since this is an older development, many of the homes have either been renovated or are in need of some repairs. Homes in the area tend to be priced highly, especially newer construction homes.
Culture: Residents of the community enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere and never have to travel too far for entertainment. NRG Stadium, Hermann Park, and Brays Bayou are all located within a reasonable distance. Walk along West Holcombe Boulevard and Bellaire Boulevard to find some of the area’s best eateries such as Flower & Cream, Dish Society, and Firehouse Subs. Although this neighborhood is often regarded as quiet, there is certainly plenty to do!
