2019 Holiday Lights Festivals in Houston

There’s nothing like a twinkling lights festival to kick off the holiday season in Houston. There’s no shortage of them in the area, and they usually offer much more than just their beautiful holiday displays. If you’re already in the mood for some holiday cheer, check out our list of 2019 Holiday Light Festivals in Houston.

  1. Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo
One of Houston’s most beloved traditions, Zoo Lights gets better every year – in fact, this year the lights will be two times brighter. Keeping in line with the zoo’s mission, the lights displays are comprised of Earth-friendly LED bulbs, so visitors can enjoy the event guilt-free. Sip hot cocoa as you stroll through the impressive 55-acre zoo and take in the sights. Take a selfie on their giant ice throne, interact with Candy the Zoo Lights Zebra, take a photo with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and chew on tasty s’mores or churros between activities. The event runs from November 23 through January 12 and is sure to keep adults and kids entertained.

  1. Lights in the Heights

The big night in Woodland Heights is scheduled for Saturday, December 14th this year. A Houston favorite, participants travel along a pedestrian-friendly route enjoying a variety of holiday-themed displays from twinkling lights to bright holiday scenes. You may even spot Santa Claus! Carolers, jazz bands, and other performers line the street to entertain their neighbors, and restaurants like Sonoma Wine Bar & Restaurant often host special festivities inside their establishments. Since parking will be difficult, it’s recommended that distant party-goers use a ride-share service like Uber to attend.

  1. Magical Winter Lights

Magical Winter Lights is an enchanting 52-day lantern festival that runs from November 15 through January 5 this year. Visitors can count on a multitude of themed lanterns, nightly acrobatic performances, carnival rides and games, a dinosaur fun zone, and much more. As a larger-than-life multicultural show and the largest lantern festival of its kind in the U.S., it’s often considered a must-attend event.
